Heidi's Pensieve

Welcome to my pensieve, certainly not as world-saving as Dumbledore's, definitely not as tortured as Snape's. Just some thoughts swirling around me head that I like to withdraw and leave here to moil around.

To Compromise Or To Change

Is it possible that a nature that habitually finds happiness and things to delight in and laugh at, is also a nature that compromises over-well to the detriment of that nature's well-being in the long run?

Compromise is good and should be lauded as a virtue in some situations but too much compromise must surely be bad and opposed to expansion, improvement and self-expression.

There is a point when compromise becomes a detractor, an excuse, a justification, an extension of hiding your head in the sand ostrich-like, a rejection of change, and eventually, pride stemming from self-satisfaction.

Seems like when you pursue and drill everything down to its core - nothing of itself is good or a virtue. Everything is better when moderated and tempered with wisdom. Of course, moderation is also bad of itself. It gives rise to self-righteousness and a terrible sense of superiority (pride again) over those who pursue excesses.
